About us
Balance is looking for volunteers who are keen drivers with a
D1 licence (allows you to drive vehicles with up to 16 passenger
seats) and who will support people with learning disabilities to
and from our Wandsworth Day Centres.
The Role
- To provide driving support for pick up and drop off duties
- at the commencement and/or end of sessions at our day
- centres in Wandsworth Borough.
- To act appropriately and go with the pace of service users
- you are working with, check you have understood them
- and be creative about what you do.
- To listen, watch and be patient learning how best to
- support someone with a complex support need.
- To keep clear records of any incidents or accidents that
- occur during your volunteering hours.
- To work within our policies and procedures to always
- ensure you and their safety
- Other reasonable tasks as and when required.
Commitment
Support is needed between 8:30am - 10:30am and/or
afternoons between 3pm - 5:30pm. All our volunteers will need
to provide two references and a DBS check, as well as a full,
clean D1 driving licence.
We ask for a commitment of at least two driving sessions a
week and in return we offer the opportunity to make a real
difference to someone’s life.
Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed as agreed and
training opportunities will be provided for those who have not
worked in Learning disability industry before or if you have
experience refreshers training will be provided.
In addition, an online induction training programme including
'Health and Safety' and 'Equality and Diversity' is provided along
with ongoing supervision from Service manager

Experience and Skills Required
A clean, current, D1 driving licence
Patience and understanding
Ability to commit to 4 hours once a week for a minimum
of 6 months.
